How we review accounting services

About the project and our review methodology

Business Accounting reviews accounting and document-workflow services the way we'd want to see them reviewed before buying: on the merits, with no paid-for enthusiasm.

Principle

Honesty matters more than a tidy conclusion

We don't take payment from vendors for our assessments and we don't publish sponsored reviews. If a service has a strong product but painful pricing or weak support, that's exactly what we'll write. A score out of 10 is a composite assessment, not an ad.

Every figure is tied to a source: the services' own official materials, industry research (Gartner, McKinsey, Journal of Accountancy, Ardent Partners) and review aggregators. Use cases are only documented results or scenarios clearly labeled as typical.

Criteria

What we weigh in every review

Features and AI

What a service actually does: document capture, auto-reconciliation, agentic processing, depth of integrations. We separate working features from marketing.

Pricing and transparency

The real cost with limits, credits and transaction fees — not just the headline price on the landing page.

Real use cases

Documented results and typical scenarios. No invented customers or quotes.

Pitfalls

Complaints from G2, Capterra, Trustpilot and Reddit, plan limits, support issues and migration problems.

Fit for the job

Who a service really suits, and who it doesn't. SMB, accounting firm or enterprise — those are different stories.

A caveat

Verify before you buy

Vendors change prices and plans regularly. Pricing in our reviews is checked as of the publication date and labeled accordingly — make your final decision after verifying on the service's official site.
